Peer-to-peer
From ActiveArchives
Peer to peer (or P2P) refers to a network structure where a group of computers exchange data using techniques that divide the work between the various members (or peers) of the network. Peer-to-peer networks have the unique property of increasing in quality and robustness as the number of participants increases, in contrast to a traditional centralized server model such as that of a web server.
Peer to peer protocols, such as BitTorrent, effectively place every client also in the role of a server, both requesting and providing data from and to other members of the network.
